Mermaid

This is my first entry to The Rookies challenge. I’ve created a new 3D artwork for the contest:
A deep-sea isopod mermaid — a mythical guardian of shipwrecks and lost souls.
Original concept art by the incredible illustrator and concept artist Christophe Young.
It was chosen specifically for this contest because this design encapsulates several mysterious, layered narratives of Lost and Found:
* A mythical and forgotten being — a mermaid, reimagined with a haunting and abyssal presence.
* A giant isopod, one of the deep sea’s most enduring inhabitants, found at depths up to 2,100 meters in the Atlantic Ocean — first discovered only in the late 18th century.
* And in her hands, she holds a relic from the lost world of Atlantis, a symbol of the forgotten civilizations that once thrived beneath the sea.

Pipeline:
- Blocking - Maya
- UVs - Maya
- Sculpting - ZBrush
- Texturing - Substance 3D Painter
- Render - Arnold
This project was a personal challenge for me. My goal was to create a creature I had never built before — and to face one of my weak points: fingers, lol.  I was never a fan of posing and adjusting them… but this mermaid has more than enough to put that weakness to the test. I worked hard, struggled, but survived 🥹
I hope you enjoy this creature of the deep! 🩵
Thank you
